Applied for loads of NT jobs, never got a single one of them 😉 But he was kind to make time to talk to young me, and given that I did get to work in loads of other interesting heritage organisations, going past that building is always a Reminder To Self for me to pay it forward.

At 21, I travelled from Cambridge to London in a great state of nervous excitement to visit the then HQ of the National Trust. I had a meeting with the head of the historic buildings department and had high hopes of making a career there.
