We don't just use tools, tools can use us. #AI #Cars even #Housing $$$ ? Ivan Illich warned (1973) that when tech becomes too complex and centralized, it enslaves us instead of serving us. The antidote? Convivial tools, tech that empowers individuals, fosters community, & respects human autonomy.

See the effect of cars on whole societies. The car formed cities by its needs, so that people without cars are excluded from fair participation in cities. Illich wrote this in 1973. We do not want to repeat this pattern with #AI.

It is this politics that wears down people with mature minds and makes them disheartened. It’s a vicious circle – break it by getting actively involved in politics. For it is the silent majority, and their retreat into the private sphere, that is destroying living conditions for us on this planet.

Smart conversation between @maxfawcett.bsky.social and @shastingssimon.bsky.social. I must also say, Sarah's podcast www.energyvsclimate.com is criminally under-listened-to. #cdnpoli #abpoli #bcpoli youtu.be/bMDtfdrB794?...
