@airborneyellow.bsky.socialCute little mushies growing up a dead twig. That is until you realise they are Hymenoscyphus fraxineus, Ash Dieback. The fungus destroying our Ash trees. Particularly abundant on old leaf stalks in a wood today. 😟. #fungi.
Show PostI was a bit surprised to get 19 of 11 species last night because it was 7° and a wet one. NFY Epirrata agg x3 and some Red-Green carpets amongst the usuals. Merv is still missing here 😮 #teammoth
Show PostHighlight of yesterday's Hunts Fauna & Flora Group fungus foray to Bedford Purlieus was a group of Powdery Piggyback fungi found on an old Blackening Brittlegill, new to me. Other nice finds included Magpie Inkcap, Orange Bonnet, Hedgehog Fungus and Blue Roundhead. #fungifriends #mushroommonday
Show PostSolifuges are arachnids with many names: Camel Spiders, Wind Scorpions, and Sun Spiders. They look like a cross between a spider and a scorpion, but they are neither. They are in their own order, Solifugae. They do not have venom. #Arachtober #arachnid #macrophotography
Show PostWhile the weather is still so lovely I have spent an hour insect spotting in the garden. Was hoping for a late Hummingbird Hawk-moth but no luck, but lots of bees and a Hairy Shieldbug. I find watching bees nectaring very soothing😁
