I was denied tenure, which to an academic, is getting fired. (I was actually promoted to Associate on my first bid, and then denied on my second one.) The story is not that exotic: I was a good teacher and scholar, but also a annoying jerk - shocking! - and the dept was a dysfunctional mess.

Personally, this is one of the most sickening and disjointed updates I’ve seen him make. This week alone, Russia attacked a passenger train, energy infrastructure, and deliberately targeted civilians, yet, he speaks of Ukrainian “hope” without ever having been to Ukraine, Russia, several times.
