📢New paper in @thejop.bsky.social on the reciprocal nature of citizens’ support for democratic transgressions. Together with Hannah Werner & @annakern.bsky.social , we show that when confronted with violations by political opponents, citizens’ support for transgressions by their own side doubles!

Our framework and extensive external validity tests, across a large set of regression models (directed/moderated effects), show multiple findings, among them: a greater fragility of autocracies compared to democracies, both in the face of a single crisis and in the occurrence of simultaneous crises.
