Just saw The Invite, which I liked very much for its bleak view of marriage, for Olivia Wilde's unerring visual sense and feel for actors, and for the fact that pairing Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton, absurd on paper, pays off brilliantly. He is now in the great-every-time phase of his career.

One of the things I'm most worried about over the next two months--other than naked attempts to steal the election--is a violent upsurge in stupidity. Multiple weird, numbing, noisy tantrums that grind everyone down two or three times a day.

Parton's legacy as a songwriter, a performer, a personality, and a beacon of warmth and acceptance all make her one of the greatest to have ever done it. But when you add the truly astounding level of her philanthropy...what is there to say? She inspired decency and shamed the wicked. All hail.
