As a software dev I knew that my peers were often privileged and not particularly left leaning. With the half hearted but widespread embrace and defence of AI it has made me realise just how deeply centrist many of them are.

People are learning the wrong fucking lessons from "individual choices don't change systemic problems". The answer is to mobilize with others, not to excuse your shitty behaviour. People got to stop using AI, stop engaging with Harry Potter and shit, and legitimately start being the billion-1 guy

It's really easy to not use it too. Like you can just not use it? They're trying to compare genAI usage to moral signaling of certain boycott movements (like vegetarians/vegans who practice because of the horrors of the meat industry, or people that don't shop at Amazon), but it's not appropriate.

Like the long and the short of it seems to be that people are fundamentally uncomfortable with pushing back on social pressure around using it. And so they spin until, after awhile, they end up a part of that social pressure.
