I was convinced the accusations were not true, also! Without reading the stories, only on the strength of her character as my friend. As a reader it feels very rude to think a fanfic writer’s quirks (like repetition) are signs of cheating instead of proof a non-professional is telling a story.

meaning and connection. I would not be surprised if you were unconsciously filling in gaps with your own perspective (or your expectation of her perspective—like a considerate host trying to best anticipate a guest). It is terrible how smooth individual lines can sound. Paragraphs, even!

Before I knew for certain that Claude had been used, what stuck out to me the most was the repetition. Something would be said the exact same way too many times to feel right, or be suggested almost the same way too many times. Personally, reading on a screen makes it difficult to remember how many.
