Agree on (1): fat catalogs kill following before the first useful call. Each MCP tool should name a closed job (aggregate/lookup/write) with params, not 40 endpoints. A count beats dumping 330 ids for the model to recount. Smaller list + explicit params keeps deterministic work off the LLM path.

One more for the list: errors the model can act on. "400 Bad Request" gets the same call retried five times. "date must be YYYY-MM-DD, got 09/29" gets fixed on the first retry.
