Every so often I hear or see something like this happening at Republican events. And I know people that severed contact with parent(s), sibling(s), grandparent(s) and other relatives for very obvious reasons. The framing reminds of a perversion of father rights movement in abortion debates.

My first thought when I saw that event with Donalds was a customer I ran into 10yrs back that was telling her grandparents to leave & never contact them again in a big front yard fight Found out the grandfather was a registered sex predator & grandmother kept taking the grandkids to see him anyways

on the way home she told her mom “grandpa hit grandma on the face when we were going to the store.” And this is why that adult child cut her parents off. To protect her children end the cycle.

There was a piece on this on the BBC recently. The grandmother finally revealed to the interviewer that the reason that the daughter-in-law (and her son) had cut her contact with the grandkids was because she had assaulted the DIL!! Absolutely no grounds for cutting her off, clearly….
