The "Duel on Mustafar" between Anakin and Obi-Wan was filmed (after a GREAT DEAL of practice) in REAL TIME as a practical swordfight between Hayden C. and Ewan M. That is some SERIOUS choreography.
Show PostEscape from New York, the glider scene. It's '81, a year before Tron revolutionised CG and Carpenter has 1/3 of Tron's budget...so how did he pull off an absurdly sophisticated wireframe simulation?! It's actually a cardboard city painted matte black, lined with reflective tape and lit with UV.
Show PostAnd Ray Park (who physically played Darth Maul) is an expert martial artist and also did the motion cap animation for Maul in the final season of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars", so not surprising.
Show PostThe duel bit of lore that I love is that in Kenobi vs Maul they had to slow down the tape because REAL TIME LOOKED UNREAL. McGregor was that darned good.
Show Post(By the way that duel also illustrates a swordfight truism: an inferior swordsman can hold off a superior one for a long time, as long as the inferior swordsman can *keep retreating*. Obi-Wan does a lot of backing up in that fight.)
