i appreciate someone who knows the context explaining casue i saw a bunch of jp posts with "kaito" and "vocaloid" but translating them didnt get my knowledge past "okay there's kaito the vb and kaito some guy"

I do worry that there's going to be a lot more cultural misunderstanding incidents going forward with fandoms that aren't as gracious, though, so I made the thread partially as a heads up that this may be something to look out for. (I have friends who follow J-Pop so I'm worried)

The good thing is that the Western response seems to mostly be a sort of apathy in the sense that Vocaloid being so much more popular is taken for granted, so I think in this case it ended cleanly (the worst was that a Chinese netizen joking about raiding their concerts was taken too seriously)

For me, this is the most interesting takeaway from all this. I assumed Vocaloid would be more ubiquitous in Japan and the general public would be more familiar with the concept, at least more so than in the West.
