Something I just realized: Karen Bass is currently serving as Metro board chair, a term which runs through June 30, 2027. If Nithya Raman becomes mayor, she will also immediately be sworn in as Metro board chair. This would also be the second Metro board chair in a row to lose their reelection

The other LA councilmember who serves as a mayoral appointee to the board does ride transit. But per the state rules, only one of the three mayoral appointees has to be a sitting councilmember. Also — Nithya Raman could immediately dismiss the current LA mayoral appointees to the Metro board, like, say, Imelda Padilla, who has no real interest or expertise in transit, and replace these board seats with people who actually ride transit
