If Baron-Cohen were a more interesting artist then he could envisage the Ali G character as he actually might be in reality 30 years on, as a Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads kind of piece. It does not sound like the new film has the slightest even pretence of doing that

The guys who Ali G was pisstaking absolutely deserved it - they are literally the same white GenXers who got mad in 2010 when people said that they couldn't sing along to the n-word any more. It's bizarre to retcon that as racism rather just noting that it's utterly meaningless 30 years later
