Show PostDespite outstanding performance, the Kingcobra was not selected for frontline service by the U.S. or U.K. Most of the production would go to the Soviets, though oddly under the provision they would not be used against the Germans. This excellent plane would see only brief combat against Japan. #OC
Show PostThe P-39 was first flown by novice pilots in the Pacific, where short range and skilled Japanese pilots gave it an immediate poor reputation. In Soviet service, its short range didn't matter, and more experienced pilots flew it. They loved its performance, armament, build quality, and comforts. #OC
Show PostThe Curtiss Hawks flew for dozens of different countries before and during WWII. The P-40 in particular was one of the most important fighters of the War, serving on almost every front and in frontline roles until the end of the conflict. The P-40 would be the 3rd most-produced U.S. fighter.
