At 14.30 6th April 1944, a small party of 75th Indian Field Ambulance walked into Kohima. The road to Dimapur had been cut and Kohima surrounded by 15,000 Japanese troops, and the tiny garrison of perhaps 1,500 had no medical personnel. With morale shaky and 161 Brigade
