The ignorance on display here is staggering. Yes, goodbye is a contracted form of God be with ye. That's been taught in school for at least 60 years; where the hell was this guy? Later people said good night/morning, and since it makes no sense to say "God night/morning" God morphed into Good.

My brother in Texas knew Pantera before they won a battle of the bands out there and hit it big. They played in the sorts of bars that mostly white, redneck crowds hung out...my brother grew out of that, but apparently the band did not.
