But if you actually want to solve the problem, then we have to understand where a group like Yandex fits into their hierarchy and then we can work on creating measures to defend against it. But you can't beat an enemy if you don't understand them.

To be fair (and because @mike10010100.com did the legwork), I think this is a less of a case that the Yandex was itself a bot farm, and more that it was a url scraping tool that fed bots downstream, so they didn't go offline, they just - lost their news feeds.

On the weekend, Ukraine struck Russian data centres and, as a result, brought down some (measurable!) 50% of far-right / hate message activity on social media, coming from bot farms. My favourite comment by an actual human being:
