On May 1st our 5-year EU African vaccine initiative started to test CHIKV vaccines in phase IIIb studies in Kenya & Tanzania. Today I learned that there is a deep-sea bacterium that apparently can do photosynthesis independent of the sun. It uses infrared light from hot hydrothermal vents. www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
