The thing about brains is that they are highly adroit at creating coherence. People don’t hold incompatible beliefs and become embarrassed when that’s pointed out, they just have a Worldview that their brain allows them not to analyze before it’s forced by some outside intervention.

I like to say that the left is a coalition of people oppressed by circumstances and people oppressed by conscience (though most of us are some combination of both) and that this is an inherently unstable combo
