The Denning Report (1963) on the Profumo Affair had HM Stationery Office shop opening to queues at 12.30 in the morning and Wikipedia (on the Profumo Affair) states that 4,000 copies were sold to queuers, and 100,000 in the first few days. I remember seeing the queue but can't vouch for the numbers.
