the takeaway for me is "ukraine is what happens when you don't have air superiority" and so it drives me mildly insane when people look at ukraine and say "this is why we have to defund the air force" we should view the ukraine war as the *bad outcome,* not the intended end state!

This already feels pretty close to the early 90s military. Directionless in the aftermath of a huge mission, blaming women and gays for its ills, all the experience is increasingly senior leaders who did COIN, the DoD distrusts the draft dodging baby boomer president. Not sure what else we can do.
