The default setting of Eureka is just the present-day USA, in the “real world,” with a leaning towards focusing on the South, though the mystery module being played in this video actually takes place in Canada.

Vampires and other paranormal people are not a SECRET being kept by a “masquerade,” it’s more so these things are just so exceedingly rare that, combined with the obvious incentives for a vampire not to reveal their vampirism, means they have largely slipped through the cracks of public awareness.

The ways these paranormal people go unnoticed or at least undocumented by wider society is thematically resonant with what the game has to say about “facts” and “truth,” very important things for a game about solving mysteries to grapple with.
