@doellerlab.bsky.socialWe argue that this sequence matters. In our new preprint, we introduce a computational model in which sequential gaze sampling helps construct the representation that is ultimately stored in episodic memory. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...
Show PostMost computational models of episodic memory start once a representation has already been formed and ask how it is stored or retrieved. But how was that representation constructed in the first place from the sequence of partial samples gathered as we look around?
Show PostImagine two people standing in the same spot, looking at the same Goya. They inspect exactly the same parts of the painting, but in a different order. Later, they talk about what they saw. Ignoring all other differences: are the memories they formed identical?
Show PostVery happy to share our new work. Do our eye movements reveal how we structure information in working memory? We found that eye movements adapt to memory demands, shifting from sequential sampling during encoding to replay-like revisitation during maintenance. dx.plos.org/10.1371/jour...
