A simple way to think about it is, "does this work view women as subordinate to male sexuality?" If your answer to this question is no, then the male gaze doesn't really apply!

Just a reminder that "male gaze" is specifically an art theory term about stripping women of their interior lives to reduce them to mere sex objects. If you think it's a blanket "this has the potential to make guys horny" you're just doing sparkling gender essentialism
