where is the trust in the author to serve up something good that you might want? where is the space for surprise? where is the fucking respect for a dude who wrote books you loved and birthed a world you're obsessed with?

my guess is that this is the result of studio led storytelling, where the character/universe is what's important, not the director or screenwriter or actor. we see similar devaluing of the artist in how books are being sold with fanfiction-esque taglines (i.e. enemies to loves + slow burn).

ironically, there's this thing called fanfiction that would scratch that itch of getting a satisfying ending, but fans are so preoccupied with the "official" and "canon" that they would rather slap the creators of their favorite stories in the face in the most offensive way than cope.
