Moe, Larry, and Shemp were the first iteration of the independent Stooges. Curly Howard, Shemp & Moe's little brother, joined the act in 1932. Then Shemp went solo, so the classic Stooges you see in the shorts are Moe Howard, Larry Fine, & Curly Howard.

Larry Fine and Moe Howard worked together from 1929 until Larry had a stroke in 1970. Not a lot of theatrical partnerships lasted forty-one years. And Larry was a "Stooge" before Moe, starting in 1928 as one of Ted Healy's sidekicks. Replacing Shemp Howard.
