While it's positively true that the '70s were Marvin Gaye's most creative, complex decade, many of his '60s albums are solid and satisfying. Spinning this one this morning. Much of the LP is produced by Smokey Robinson w/ lovely vocal harmonies. His take on Willie Nelson's Night Life is a highlight.

Bill Drummond sings like a man telling you something important across a kitchen table. The songs wander through country music, old friendships and peculiar personal obsessions. Quite possibly the greatest Scottish album of all time.
