And I call this a "misunderstanding" rather than a "lie" because I sometimes see it among liberals and even leftists, who I will give the benefit of the doubt might actually believe it. Kind of like "well, the Nazis/Fascists DID made the trains run on time." (In truth they absolutely fucked them)
