It also gets weird bc you have things like the LAXPD, an police department that is exclusively active at LA airports, as well as an LAPP for the Port of Los Angeles, and neither is part of the LAPD

it's basically a causal inference nightmare and you should be really really skeptical of anyone telling you things about it without any kind of certainty unless they have a shitload of work they can show you

the state of data on policing is terrible considering how important an issue it is. it doesn't help that half the available datasets are from people with one agenda or another (in multiple different directions)
