We can only understand what we can understand and what we desire to understand. That is the key why SDA GC president will never understand being LGBTQ: he doesn't want to understand. It has nothing to do with scripture or EGW.

my most conservative set of beliefs probably revolve around this, i think the immediate impediment to any social democratic policy goals is the lack of civic virtue and concern for the general welfare.

The word "spirituality," used so often now in Christian discussions, tends toward a transfer of agency from God's prevenient grace to an emphasis on human qualities, preparation, readiness, or effort. The Christmas story is not "spiritual." It is a radical announcement of God's inbreaking.

I really do believe in God and that God has a purpose for the American story. I still have hope for the city on a hill, that somehow reconciliation and brotherhood will someday emerge from the original sin of racial enslavement. That we will be a righteous people and live in harmony.
