In #MathsToday, it occurred to me that a reason why my mechanics students often find worded problems hard is that in most of my examples I give them a diagram which I talk through. Time to focus on some problems where I give them time to struggle over producing a diagram themselves. #ALevelMaths

Knew a teacher once who challenged kids to memorize poems. I think there are lots of ways that has value. Maybe something different to try, even in math class?

Gonna go out on a limb and say both - they've got predilection towards being able to memorize things of interest *and* it's a less-exercised skill.
