We met with the new Science Minister Chris McDonald yesterday. He indicated his strong support across all R&D disciplines which was great to hear. He is keen to get to know the social science, humanities and arts, and has offered to meet with our community which we'll take forward

The question is, who briefed him? Good ministers require good briefing by civil servants and/or spads. There's been a lapse in the line in that respect by the looks of it.

When asked in the Q&A about arts and humanities he says he personally values them (seems very genuine) but that he is the Science Minister, and it’s for the DCMS Minister to make the case for those. He’s perhaps not yet clocked he is responsible for all R&D. Would Wissenschaft Minister work better?
