On a related note, I used to hate it when fans of 'Big Five' clubs sang 'you've got no history' at Chelsea, as if you can only have a heritage and culture if you've spent almost your entire existence in the top half of the top tier

Ultimately, the cause of all this is the existence of the Premier League - the 1992 breakaway broke redistribution mechanisms and the absence of regulation re owners meant sooner or later something like this would happen. Still think City should be kicked out of the PL and their owners banned though
