Means-testing is the enemy. It's a trick — a sham. It erodes social cohesion. It stigmatizes. We must escape this notion of deserving and undeserving and drawing arbitrary lines that only serve to divide us. Instead, we should provide universally and tax the rich appropriately.

It is also incredibly, ruinously expensive. Requires an army of trained civil servants with salaries and government pensions. All to prevent the wrongful payment of tiny sums of money. It is nearly always cheaper to make a benefit universal than means testing.
