I suppose we could have a discussion about whether one could ever have machine consciousness, but it would be hypothetical, not about anything like what exists today. Sci-fi, as others in thread have put it.

Maybe I’m just an elitist jerk, but the pro-consciousness side is just entirely incompatible with my experience. The more time I have spent with these systems, the more they have felt like elaborate, capable, but flawed machines, and the less like spiritual beings.
