I think STARTING from a trope can be fun — like if you just really want to write or read enemies to lovers romance because you love it, that’s great — but REDUCING a book to nothing more than its tropes is cheap writing when a writer does it and lazy literary criticism when a reader does it

Mike Rogers is running a TV ad in Michigan with a woman displaying her wedding ring and her religious cross necklace while she claims that Abdul El-Sayed will be dangerous to her four children. That ad makes me want to vomit. I'm voting for Abdul El-Sayed. He will make a great senator for Michigan.
