Escape from New York, the glider scene. It's '81, a year before Tron revolutionised CG and Carpenter has 1/3 of Tron's budget...so how did he pull off an absurdly sophisticated wireframe simulation?! It's actually a cardboard city painted matte black, lined with reflective tape and lit with UV.

Thoughtful piece by @joshspero.ft.com. I find the Kindertransport memorial in Liverpool St particularly moving having seen its mirror image (same design) in Vienna's Bahnhof-West, with the inscription "with deepest gratitude to the British people".
