If you still believe OpalApparition used Claude “just twice”, or that she didn’t use it at all, please see her own words. You deserve to know and to care that you were lied to. I and other anti-AI writers she coerced into unknowingly editing AI processed text deserve to be furious at her deception.

What was OpalApparition acknowledging and “so, so, so sorry” for? For using AI in her fanfic, while lying to a massive, intensely devoted readership that she would never do so. She told the same lie to creative friends who supported her even though they are not in the Heated Rivalry fandom.

And for having me, a friend OpalApparition knew to be totally against genAI in fandom and creative work… edit several chapters of fanfic she was reworking to publish, never disclosing that meant I would be refining thousands of words of text she had, AT MINIMUM, fed into and processed through AI.

Here is the type of editing I did. A lot of creative problem solving, using my skills to suggest rewrites and ways to combine or cut redundancies. I did it—I volunteered!—because OpalApparition was my friend. I was thrilled for her to be getting attention from agents wanting her big fic.

There was time pressure. OpalApparition’s agent wanted the manuscript of Foxglove (Wolfbird) reduced by tens of thousands of words, quickly. I offered when the amount of work seemed to be really worrying Opal. Then it was nbd? 🫠 (idk if “editor” = the agent. We celebrated in now deleted chats.)
