LLMs produce statistically plausible text given a particular context. «Agents» run that in a loop, «given everything we’ve said so far and this new text, what is the most plausible next piece of text?» There is nothing there. It’s all in people’s heads.

Had a bit of a rant at work recently, about people using AI to write exec summaries. My view, if you've written a report, you know the key messages in your head so just write them down like a normal person with basic literacy. The reader won't need to generate an AI summary.

Working in the public sector this is exactly how I think things are going. Someone writes a bullet list of stuff. They ask AI to turn it into a lengthy report for a committee. The committee members ask AI to turn the report into an easier to read bullet list. Chinese whispers happens in between.
