The mental model for verbatimModuleSyntax:true is simple. 🔷 Design-time import import type { ... } from "mod"; // no runtime import ❌ 🔷 Runtime import import { ... } from "mod"; // runtime import preserved ✅ The `type` keyword controls if an import statement of binding will be erased.

I've inherited a codebase in the past where the previous team chose option 2. Fast forward 3y, 2 burnouts, lots of pain and frustration and lastly, a resignation... Don't choose option 2.

Migrating to TS is challenging to do right, as the developers need to change their mindset to using types. I've observed multiple teams committing to use TS because it's best practice, but then just spray anys all over the place which defeats the purpose of using TS in the first place.
