And once you get over the initial "lol, lmao, Dune musical" it actually makes a lot of sense as an adaptation — the novel is filled with internal monologues, which don't translate at ALL to the filmed versions, but are perfect for a musical. Plus, and I cannot stress this enough, the songs all slap.
Show PostAnd to be earnest for a moment, D!TM is a genuinely thoughtful/clever/unique take on adapting a quite long and sort of unusual novel into a 60-minute one-man show, without falling into the trap of being facile or a pisstake. There ARE jokes (many of them! Good ones!) but it's not *A* joke.
Show PostOnce again I am calling on everyone I know within 6 hours of Edinburgh to run — not walk — without rhythm straight into the audience for Dune! The Musical at Fringe this year. I can't be there, so I need to live vicariously through the rest of you.
Show PostAnyway Aotearoa New Zealand is far enough away from the UK that I suspect it's unlikely @dancollinscomedy.bsky.social will manage to bring the show down this way any time soon, so I've gotta live vicariously through the rest of you (and from the album, which is good but no real substitute).
