No, that's not it. His point is Trump and Co. are fascists, but the United States today is not a consolidated fascist state. If it were the latter, a bunch of people who discuss this stuff openly, including on this website, would've been disappeared by now.

there’s no shortage of old white dudes with terrible politics and by all accounts Cleese was always a bit of a dick but this one is still so depressing, I was a big time Python nerd growing up and Cleese is imo one of the most gifted comedians of all time this just sucks
