I took some crap from some people for saying I was rooting for Venezuela, but that’s my family. Baseball means so much. I bonded with my father in law listening to marlins games on the radio. I’ve taken my nieces to baseball games — I was teaching my nephew how to throw a kick-change last summer!

Basically my wife’s entire family has left Venezuela, and that’s a deeply sad thing. They’ve all gone through so much to try to make a better life for their kids, and it’s been hard for everyone. But there’s so much love and joy and beauty, and that’s what I was rooting for tonight.

People in the comments of the podcast were mad when I said I am rooting for Venezuela over the US, but after seeing how emotional my wife got when they beat Japan over the weekend, how could I not? It just means more!
