I don't know, but it seems like all the AI hype has induced a kind of willful suspension of disbelief on the part of a lot of reasonably intelligent but extremely credulous people, who are willing to take the science fiction fantasies of the Nerd Reich at face value. Silicon Valley psychosis.

So saying a crude (compared to the human brain) sequence of electronic logic gates is not sentient is the "strong" claim that requires "extraordinary" evidence, but "we can't say for sure" is more defensible? Shouldn't it be the other way around? Did someone drop Stancil on his head as a baby??

It's a MACHINE. It doesn't have dignity, or feelings. It doesn't even know what "abusive" means other than what its probability functions have been trained (i.e. programmed) to define as such. If being "nice" to it makes you feel you're not "polluting the world," great. But it has no moral meaning.
