It feels a bit surreal, one year on, doing SWP again and remembering all that trauma. Having this big reminder of how much our lives have changed - and that's without going into all the court drama with harasser on top of it all! We have adapted, we have survived, and we will continue to survive.
Show PostAnd despite it all last year, we both stuck through Sweat With Pride and raised almost $5000 between us. Again, one of the hardest things we've ever done, but we'd made the commitment so we saw it through, despite everything going on with MIL. I'm really proud of both of us for doing that.
Show PostAlmost a year on, it's still a lot. We have no real lives apart from moments snatched here and there, looking after a 93yr old with complex needs who is totally dependent on you is not something either of us had expected. We do get some small help from a good friend, a few hours every other Sunday.
Show PostIt's been especially hard on my husband. He's her full-time carer now and had to give up his job. We're a single income household, existing on just my wage. He gets no breaks, he's up at 6am every day to start attending to her needs and it's constant care throughout the day. It's rough for him.
Show PostAfter she came home it took months to regain the use of her hands to even do basic things, like self toilet. She had some hospital acquired dementia symptoms and was often in deep distress through the night, waking us multiple times a night. It was a long time before we got a full night's sleep.
