Structured the way it was it means that any reversal story isn't going to involve Peter's agency because even aside from killing May it wouldn't make sense to him. It'd be like Total Recall'ing a marriage. Someone will just to rewrite reality on his behalf for some reason.

It's barely a deal with the devil as it is anyway. Usually in that kind of story the dealee has a key moment realizing the deal is bad. But Peter doesn't even know a deal was made. To him, the way things are now are the way they always were.
