Just to clarify, these are not normally lava glazes, they just react that way on black clay (mine was KY Mudworks Brown Bear, but potters have reported similar results on other black clays). Birch, for example, is typically a smooth creamy off-white.

Not familiar with this process, but have had some success with lava-like textures with commercial glazes, especially on black clay. (Mayco Stoneware Birch and/or Winter Wood on these, sorry, it was a while back). I'll be curious to see how yours comes through the firing.
