Yes it's the classic, revision skills being taught in isolation thing, All those days we spent off timetable in the 90s and 00s running them (to my shame until I learned better) but they meant nothing until teachers started doing it in subject lessons.

Whilst I know that we too used to "teach" most of these it always surprises me (and it shouldn't) that children don't make links between lesson activities and subsequent questions (including in exams "Oh that was what the question was about sir, but I knew that,")

Every weekend is an opportunity to apply for work experience. If you started at the beginning of Year 10 and wrote three letters every Saturday, how many experiences do you think you’d chalk up by the time you leave school? Lots, right?
