Given government have done nothing all spring & summer to enable any levers to be pulled, this is probably the only thing available and therefore is the best option by default. That is a ringing endorsement, right there.

Our report from June explains how the replacement for the triple lock will work (we called it a 'smoothed' triple lock). It's a much better policy than the current triple lock - State Pension is protected from inflation spikes and tracks earnings long term, but the expensive ratchet is removed.

Nuclear has ticked up again, now towards 5.3GW. Highest availability in a couple of years. Great to see but, also, couldn’t have picked a less helpful time of day, week or year to step up output. Sunny Saturdays in April not when we need that baseload so much.
